2024 I See you: Joan Miro

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the artists and speakers from CRE Spanish and Orange Sky for their incredible contributions. A special thank you to our generous sponsors: McFillin Accountants, Totem, and the Gestalt Art Therapy Centre. Your support has been invaluable. Additionally, I would like to express my appreciation to the musicians for adding a melodic touch to our event. Lastly, thank you to BIA for welcoming us once again this year. Your collective efforts have made this event a resounding success.

Freelance Curator

Why this title: I see you: Joan Miro.

Joan is the artist's first name, and MIRO is his surname.

When I conceived the idea for this exhibition, I played with his surname, because  'Miro' is also a verb in Spanish, meaning 'to see.

Using this translation, I created the name of this exhibition: I See You: Joan Miro.

"Who is JOAN MIRO:

Joan Miró is a famous  Spanish Catalan painter, sculptor, and ceramicist, celebrated for his significant contributions to Surrealism.

Born in Barcelona in 1893, Miró developed a distinctive style characterized by vibrant colors, organic forms, and playful abstraction.

His work often drew inspiration from the landscapes and culture of Catalonia, blending elements of fantasy and reality to create dreamlike compositions.

His legacy is celebrated worldwide, and his art continues to inspire with its imaginative qualities.

Tonight's exhibition is inspired by Miró.

PERFORMANCES:

Griffin Cappello

Griffin Cappello is an emerging Composer with his sights set on becoming a composer for film and television.

Griffin attends Rivermount College and, for his second consecutive year is receiving tuition in Classical Composition as part of the Young Conservatory Program with Griffith University.

The I See You Joan Miro exhibition will be Griffin’s second experience sharing a live performance of his original work.  To create this piece, he used stimulus images of Miro making art, coupled with several of Miro’s works.

Griffin intends to capture the movement and spatial qualities of Miro, to communicate how Miro physically created his art, and how as a viewer he perceived the sense of space within some of Miro’s works.
