Sulja Raam is a Brisbane-based artist with a rich background as an industrial designer, a precious metals jeweller, a contemporary blacksmith, a furniture designer, a unique fabricator, a sculptor, and a theatre set designer. Having worked in a range of precious and industrial materials as well as found objects, he has exhibited his eclectic works in Sydney, Cairns, and Brisbane since 1987.

Sulja is a contemporary jeweller with an honours degree in Industrial Design with additional skills as a contemporary metalsmith and furniture designer/maker. Other creative endeavours include sculpting. 

A graduate of QUT and Randwick Tech he has run his own creative business, Totem Design, in Sydney, Cairns and Brisbane and he has had several exhibitions in each city, having his first show, a group show, in 1986.

  • Searching and Finding at the Artists Gallery, Woolloomooloo, Sydney. 
  • Crowntown at the HUB in Newtown NSW 
  • Traces at the Tanks Art Centre Cairns 
  • Forging North at the Cairns Regional Gallery and the Tanks Art Centre 
  • The Smart Show at the Contemporary Art and Design Gallery Woolloongabba. 

Sulja has been a key collaborator in a series of interactive sculptural/sound events around Brisbane with the Clocked-Out Duo (Erik Griswold and Vanessa Tomlinson). 

These collaborations involved designing and fabricating site-specific musical sculptures, sets and props at the Brisbane Powerhouse, QPAC and the Conservatorium of Music for Dream Percussion, and designing the SCATTER sound sculpture in collaboration with Dr John Ferguson Head of Electronic Music at the Brisbane Conservatory of Music and composer/musician Erik Griswald, for the Brisbane Ideas Festival and the Tyalgum Music Festival.
